What might be my first exposure to the incredible capacity of our hyman potential, is lying on my sofa as a young kid watch athletes compete at the highest level. Sure, there were the common team sports of hockey, basketball, football and baseball. Fun to watch and play but not exactly remarkable.

But for me, the Olympics were another level. Especially the less common sports and events like ski jumping, biathlon or the marathon…those seemed special, fascinating and very remarkable. I marvelled at how people would put their body into extreme conditions, look like their were on the verge of death but fiercely committed to keep pushing.

Yet there was one sporting competition that was next level. Was beyond my comprehension. Was other-worldly. I simply couldn’t wrap my head around how that can be done.

I’m talking about the Ironman triathlon.

A one-day competition consisting of a 2.4m swim, 112mi bike ride, and a full 26mi marathon…in the heat! Watching men and women push the limits was equally inspiring, inconceivable and impossible. Those people must be from another planet…or so I thought as a teenager.

Since then, in the 20+ years gone by, I learned a lot of what it takes to achieve the impossible and that vast capacity – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually – lies within each and every one of us to face enormous challenges, overcome incredible odds and achieve amazing things. Especially things that we used to believe could never happen to us.

“We have a limitless mind in a limited body”

So I am honoured and blessed to bring you today’s guest, Rajan Thananayagam.

The facts would tell you that Rajan has now competed in 18 Ironman triathlon races, most recently at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. That alone is incredibly impressive. You might think that Rajan is a genetically gifted man who must have unlimited resources, a support team and a flexible lifestyle. But wait until you hear his story. Wait until you understand where Rajan started and where he is going.

Normally I would tell you to be sure to take notes and capture your key ideas from our guests. But today, I emplore you to sit back and just listen. Just listen to the truth — of what we…of what YOU…are capable of. Of the depth of potential, resilience, compassion and love you have within you.

And maybe just maybe, Rajan’s story will spark something in you and fuel you to lift the lid on your “perceived limitations”.

This conversation with Rajan stirred something in me…and I hope it stirs you too. Enjoy the conversation….
